Our Green Initiative
We all need to work together to improve the environment. At American Community Properties Trust (ACPT), we aspire to create a green culture within our organization as an example for our residents, employees, other businesses, and government officials. Our goal is to develop model policies encouraging conservation and environmental sensitivity that will become a standard for other businesses to follow.
At ACPT, we are committed to leading this this effort by moving to a paperless environment. When we move to the O'Donnell Lake Office Building in Spring 2010 it is our goal to:
- Have eliminated 75% of all files on site and in storage. Although we have already begun to reduce the paper generated within our office, it is our goal to reduce generated paper by 60%.
- Mandate recycling in our office and at our properties. We have instituted a plan to bring paper, glass, plastic and aluminum recycling to our 15 apartment properties serving more than 2,200 homes.
- Educate employees and residents about the environmental ethos. Through community and internal E-newsletters, this website, and other venues we plan to educate St. Charles residents, employees and businesses on how to reduce your carbon footprint at home and at work, how to choose a healthy lifestyle, and how and taking care of yourself and the environment promotes green living.
- From energy to water use to transportation to the materials that make our lives convenient, each of us needs to examine ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Check out the links below for wide-ranging ways to reduce home energy use, recycle, to landscape your home with native plants, and reduce overall water use. Together, we can make a difference.
